Brookdale Senior Living, the nation’s leading owner and provider of high-quality senior living communities, is launching its new wellness awareness program, Movement is Medicine. The program details alternate choices for older adults to achieve the physician-recommended 30 minutes of moderate activity almost every day.
Led by Kevin W. O’Neil, MD, FACP, a specialist in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics and Medical Director of Optimum Life® for Brookdale Senior Living, the program encourages seniors to reap the benefits of exercise.
“The goal of the program is to improve the health and wellness of older adults through the development of a physical activity plan,” said Dr. O’Neil. “No other single life change is capable of having impact in so many areas of health and wellness as moderate activity every day.”
Dr. O’Neil will be kicking off the program by traveling the country to select Brookdale Senior Living communities to conduct wellness conferences. From April 14-17, 2008 Dr. O’Neil will be in the Phoenix area. Many special events will be conducted, including several that are open to the public.
Dr. O’Neil will be keynote speaker at the events and educate seniors on the benefits and many unique opportunities for movement. In addition, residents will have an opportunity to make a personalized activity plan at the conference.
“This program is an extension of our mission to enrich the lives of those we serve,” said Dr. O’Neil. “We are educating our residents that age-related changes can be reversed or slowed through movement. Regular physical activity is the closest thing to the fountain of youth.”
